Microsoft Word Text Does Not Print
If a job isn’t printable (perhaps the document no longer exists), you’ll need to delete it from the queue before you can print anything newer. To do this, click on the X next to the progress bar below the document’s name. Is it a connection problem?: A second possibility is that Print Queue claims the printer is “not connected” or that it cannot “communicate” with the printer. You'll find common fixes for this problem next. Check the printer itself If your attempts to fix things at your Mac’s end don’t resolve the matter, it’s time to look at the printer itself: Check for paper: Make sure you have paper in the printer’s auto-feed or manual-feed tray (whichever one you’ve selected to use) and that there is no paper jam. This did not completely solve the problem for me. BUT I did a Save As. And saved the document as a PDF.
For situations where bitmaps are unavoidable, try to use the resolution that best matches the final use of your documents. For example, PDF files destined for print should contain bitmaps that have a minimum resolution of 300 dots per inch (dpi); therefore, an image that will be three inches wide and two inches tall on paper should be at least 900-by-600 pixels to print well. What about fonts? Text is stored inside a PDF file using two pieces of information: the characters and the font. One of the format’s key features is the ability to embed a font directly inside a PDF file; this, in turn, makes it possible to accurately render a document's fonts on computers where the font is not installed. Thus, if text in a PDF file looks blurry and pixelated, or otherwise fails to render correctly, the culprit is almost certainly the absence of embedded fonts.

What PDF is not PDF is not a format designed to be edited. Depending on the document, it can be, to some limited extent, but that’s not its purpose at all. Consider it a display-only format — not unlike the paper it’s intended to replace. If you do need to exchange a document such that others can edit and make changes to it, Word’s “.doc” and “.docx” formats are what you need; just don’t expect the document to look the same everywhere. The bottom line Use the right tool for the job. When sharing finished documents with others, use PDF.
